St. Elizabeth Home Society (“Home Society”) is a registered Canadian charity, since 1967 with the mission of providing support to those experiencing conditions attributable to being aged through personal care assistance, accommodation, and education. Our vision is to be a community leader in providing reliable, consistent, and value-based services to those who are experiencing conditions attributable to being aged.

Originally based out of Hamilton, Home Society expanded its activities to Mississauga and subsequently, the Greater Toronto Area in response to the needs of older adults during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In 2021, Home Society created its in-home service division Silver Services which provides in-home care services, transportation, and online programming for older adults. In 2024, Silver Services added an additional home upkeep service to help with minor tasks around the home to help older adults with living independently.

Home Society is also launching a new concept in assisted living accommodation, partnering with the U.S. based Green House Project to provide a home atmosphere, empowered elders and staff and a meaningful life. This project will be based in Hamilton.

Home Society also supports local charities and has partnered with several not-for-profit groups to ensure continued care and services for older adults.

Home Society was founded in 1959 by Sister Elisabeth Manhertz, SJC (1918-2010) with the purpose of emulating, as closely as possible, the work of Saint Elizabeth in aid of the elderly and infirm.

Under Sister Elisabeth’s leadership, Home Society provided affordable housing options for seniors as well as assistance with activities of daily life in nursing and retirement home settings. She also established the first lifeleasing community in Canada, the St. Elizabeth Village, in Hamilton.

More can be learned about Sister Elisabeth’s life and legacy in the award winning docu-drama “Sister Elisabeth –Strength of Faith” available at sisterelisabeththemovie.com.

Our Manhertz Principle is a trademarked proprietary multi-level diversified care system. It provides for the care of the elderly, according to their health condition(s) and is based upon Sister Elisabeth Manhert’z principle of Continuum of Care with physical and mental support provisions.

Today, Home Society continues in the spirit of our history by offering as much or as a little help as needed to our elderly community and beyond.

“After my considerable experience with Silver Services, I state categorically that I would not be able to cope without your varied programs. Whether getting me to my many medical appointments through dense traffic, to in-home care and taking me out to shopping and other necessities, I would be near to being totally shut down without your on-time, friendly and enthusiastic expertise. With my present state of having severely impaired mobility, I would be unable to meet the requirements of living independently if it were not for the services that you provide. Your assistance is a lifeline to my physical and psychological survival! Please convey my sincere, deep, gratitude to everyone that has assisted me." – Doug

“I would like to tell you that I think the services provided are wonderful. If not for the zoom classes, I would never have been doing my exercise. As my mobility is decreasing, I may be utilizing more of the support you offer. Thank you for giving seniors support without making us feel like 2nd class citizens.” – Junia

“Silver Services has a wide selection of virtual exercise classes that are excellent for keeping the body flexible and strong. The instructors are great for sharing tidbits about the various movements and their benefits. There’s also various types of interactive activities scheduled each month that provide learning and current information on various topics of interest to seniors.” – Toni

“Silver Services has been a life saver. The exercise classes allow me to stay active, even with my mobility issues. Silver Services is great for the mind and body.” – Anne
